SACRAMENTO, CA – CAL FIRE has announced $27 million in funding to support Schoolyard Greening projects and nonprofit childcare facilities across California. This latest initiative builds on the $121 million in Green Schoolyard Grants awarded earlier in 2023.

The grants aim to create healthier environments for children by planting trees, replacing pavement with green spaces, and launching other projects that improve outdoor areas. These efforts are designed to enhance the well-being of students across the state.

CAL FIRE’s Urban and Community Program recently discussed the impact of these projects with Jefferson Public Radio, emphasizing the importance of greener, more sustainable schoolyards.
