A low-pressure system moving in from the northwest is set to bring chances of light precipitation to Southern California from Thursday into Friday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in San Diego. The system will also usher in cooler temperatures before giving way to warmer, dry weather for the weekend and early next week.

As of Wednesday morning, the NWS reported that a widespread marine layer and stable atmospheric conditions remain over the region. This has helped maintain the cooler-than-average temperatures, especially in the mountains and inland valleys, where temperatures are still 10 to 15 degrees below normal. However, today's high temperatures are expected to be slightly warmer than Tuesday's, with an increase of around 5 degrees.

By Thursday, the center of the low-pressure system is expected to move near Point Conception and then gradually travel across Southern California on Thursday night and into Arizona by Friday night. As a result, high temperatures will dip slightly on Thursday before warming up again on Friday.
