Portland has claimed the top spot as the "Best Coffee City in America," according to a new ranking by WalletHub. The city's thriving coffee culture, affordability, and abundance of highly rated coffee shops helped it secure the coveted title, edging out San Francisco, which placed second.

One of Portland's key strengths is the sheer number of affordable coffee shops, many of which are rated at least 4.5 out of 5 stars. This combination of quality and affordability has made the city a favorite for coffee aficionados. Additionally, Portland ranks ninth for the most coffee shops per capita offering free Wi-Fi, making it an ideal spot for those who like to work or study while sipping their favorite brew.

A Coffee-Loving City, Inside and Out

While many Portlanders frequent local cafes, a significant portion of the city's population also enjoys brewing coffee at home. WalletHub’s report highlights that over 24% of Portland households own an electric coffee grinder, ranking the city ninth nationwide. Additionally, nearly 30% of residents have a single-cup or pod-brewing coffee maker, showing a strong interest in convenience and quality at home.

Despite Portland's thriving coffee shop scene, households spend an average of $170 annually on coffee—ranking 18th in the country, lower than other coffee hotspots. This suggests that while Portlanders appreciate high-quality coffee, they are also savvy spenders, finding value in both their home brewing and their cafe experiences.

Portland's diverse coffee scene, coupled with its emphasis on quality and affordability, has cemented its status as a premier destination for coffee lovers. Whether grabbing a cup to go or brewing at home, the people of Portland have created a vibrant, coffee-centric culture that continues to lead the nation.
