A trough of low pressure moving across the western U.S. will bring cooler temperatures and a chance of rain to the southern Great Basin region over the next few days, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures are expected to remain 10-15 degrees below normal through Friday, with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms possible.

The system, which has slowed in its eastward progression, will move into southern Nevada and western Arizona by Friday afternoon. Precipitation chances have increased, particularly over higher terrain areas, though widespread heavy rain or flash flooding is not expected. The first snowflakes of the season could even appear on the peaks of the Spring Mountains.

Warmer and drier conditions are anticipated to return over the weekend as a high-pressure ridge builds back into the region.
