The United States Postal Service (USPS) has proposed a series of price hikes that could raise the cost of a first-class stamp from its current 73 cents to even higher levels over the next three years. In a document submitted to the Postal Regulatory Commission on Monday, USPS outlined its plan to implement five consecutive price increases starting in July 2025.

The proposal includes rate hikes every January and July through the end of 2027. USPS officials said the planned increases are necessary for the agency to meet its “legal obligation to be financially self-sufficient.”

If approved, these changes would mark a significant shift for consumers and businesses that rely on USPS services, especially as stamp prices have been steadily climbing in recent years. The postal service last raised the price of a first-class stamp in January 2024.

This latest proposal is part of USPS’s broader strategy to balance its budget and address the financial challenges the agency has faced for years. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy has previously pointed to rising operational costs and the need for long-term sustainability as reasons for postage rate increases.

Get rid of USPS! Everything has gone to computers. FedX, UPS can handle packages and the rest online. Enough with the rising cost of stamps.
