SAN JOSE — Plans for a potential Costco in West San Jose are moving forward, despite opposition from local residents worried about traffic and noise impacts. The San Jose Planning Commission voted unanimously on Wednesday to certify the environmental impact report (EIR) for the proposed warehouse, with Commissioners Chuck Cantrell and Michael Young absent. The decision paves the way for the city council to take up the matter for final approval on October 22.

The prospective Costco would be located at 5287 Prospect Road, marking the sixth location in the area. While city officials emphasized that traffic would only slightly increase with the new development, residents raised concerns that the report doesn't fully account for peak traffic times before and after classes at nearby Prospect High School.

Residents also voiced fears over noise pollution and traffic safety, but the city stressed that the environmental report met all regulatory standards. The San Jose City Council will have the final say on whether the project moves forward next month.
