Southern California Forecast: Morning Fog to Clear as Bay Area Braces for Warm Afternoon

Morning commuters in the Bay Area are waking up to dense fog and low stratus clouds in several areas, particularly south of Santa Cruz, as a compressed marine layer settles in. These foggy conditions are expected to persist until around 8 AM, when daytime heating will help dissipate the fog, allowing for clearer skies.

The National Weather Service (NWS) forecasts that the fog, which has mostly avoided impacting the Bay Area’s larger urban centers, could still develop before sunrise in certain parts of the region. However, as the sun begins to rise and temperatures increase, the saturated air is expected to mix out, leading to clearer conditions by mid-morning.

Once the fog clears, the Bay Area is expected to experience a warm afternoon, with inland temperatures reaching the mid-90s — roughly 10 degrees above normal for this time of year. Coastal areas will remain more moderate, with highs in the 70s and 80s, still several degrees above average.

Commuters and residents are advised to take caution during the early morning hours due to limited visibility from the fog, but the weather should turn sunny and warm by the late morning.
