The National Weather Service in Eureka reports that seasonably warm and dry weather will persist through early next week for inland areas, while coastal regions will experience more seasonal conditions with overnight cloudiness and scattered afternoon sunshine.

Today, sunny skies have prevailed along the Humboldt coast, with a patch of low stratus forming offshore. This patch is expected to move onshore tonight, bringing low clouds and patchy fog to the coastal plain. A cutoff upper low south of the region is advancing toward Point Conception, while a large, shallow upper trough approaches the Pacific Northwest. This combination has led to temperatures in the interior areas being around 10 degrees above normal this afternoon.

As the weekend progresses, temperatures are forecasted to moderate slightly with the arrival of the upper trough. However, early next week, high pressure will build, resulting in another round of hot and dry conditions for the interior valleys, with temperatures possibly nearing 100 degrees on Monday and Tuesday. Coastal areas will remain in the seasonal range, with increasing northerly winds promoting stratus development and patchy fog in isolated areas.

Looking further ahead, models indicate a potential shift in weather patterns late next week, with indications of an upper-level trough entering the area. However, variability in the models makes it challenging to predict any significant rainfall for northwest California at this time.
