Southwest Airlines hosted its Investor Day in Dallas, revealing a transformative three-year plan aimed at enhancing the Customer Experience and boosting profitability. Company leaders outlined several key initiatives designed to meet evolving traveler preferences while preserving the airline’s unique features.

Southwest announced plans to introduce assigned seating, a move expected to roll out in 2025, catering to the 80% of Southwest Customers who prefer seat assignments. Additionally, the airline will offer premium seating options with extra legroom for a third of its seats, catering to both business and leisure travelers.

Southwest will also update its boarding process while maintaining its signature "bags fly free" policy, which remains a core differentiator from competitors. Bob Jordan, CEO of Southwest, emphasized that these changes are part of a larger effort to improve financial performance and deliver long-term value to shareholders.

The first flights with assigned seating are expected in 2026, marking a new era for the airline.
