LOS ANGELES – Southern California is in the midst of a record-breaking heat wave, with dangerously high temperatures persisting through Thursday. Strong high pressure over the region is driving inland temperatures to extreme levels, prompting heat warnings and advisories for much of the area.

Inland valleys and mountain regions are experiencing the brunt of the heat, with temperatures ranging from 100 to 115 degrees, while coastal areas are slightly cooler, with highs in the mid-80s to mid-90s. Beaches remain a rare reprieve, with temperatures in the upper 70s. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that many daily and monthly records could be broken again today, following a scorching day of record highs yesterday.

While Thursday and Friday will bring slight cooling—up to 12 degrees in some coastal areas—the heat will remain dangerous for many inland regions. By Friday, the arrival of a trough in the Pacific Northwest is expected to bring more significant relief, with a further drop in temperatures.

The NWS advises residents to take precautions, especially in areas under heat warnings. Hydration, avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat, and seeking cooler environments are crucial for staying safe during this period.
