Las Vegas is in for continued scorching temperatures as a high-pressure system remains anchored over the region, with heat expected to persist through Monday. The National Weather Service has extended an Excessive Heat Warning for areas along the Colorado River, Morongo Basin, and Death Valley through Monday evening, as temperatures in these lower elevations are expected to approach or exceed 100 degrees.

At Harry Reid International Airport, temperatures have already hit 98 degrees and are on track to reach 100, potentially setting a new record for the latest 100-degree day in Las Vegas. The intense heat will continue with little variation through early next week, keeping daytime highs near record levels.

A gradual cooldown is forecast for Tuesday and beyond, as a weather system begins to move toward the Pacific Northwest and West Coast, leading to a slight reduction in temperatures and a return of afternoon breezes. While temperatures will still be above normal through Friday, there's a chance of more significant cooling by next weekend, depending on the strength of the approaching trough.
