Reno and the surrounding areas will experience warm, dry conditions through the weekend, with temperatures climbing back up after a brief cooldown. Highs in lower elevations will range from the mid-80s to near 90, while Sierra communities can expect temperatures in the 80s. Afternoon wind gusts will reach 15-25 mph, providing some relief from the heat.

Smoke from the Peak Fire may impact the eastern Sierra, particularly near Walker and Bridgeport, this afternoon and evening. Although the overall forecast remains dry, there is a slight chance for afternoon showers or thunderstorms along the Sierra through Sunday. By Sunday and Monday, chances for showers increase slightly, particularly in the Eastern Sierra and along the Oregon border.

Looking ahead to late next week, a cooling trend is expected as a trough approaches the Pacific Northwest, bringing the possibility of increased winds and cooler temperatures. While there's still uncertainty about the likelihood of rain, there is a slight chance for precipitation in far northeastern California and northwest Nevada by next Friday. After the passage of the trough, high pressure is likely to return, bringing warm and dry conditions into mid-October.
