Phoenix is experiencing a historic heatwave as record-breaking temperatures persist across the region. The city hit 106 degrees at noon on Saturday, breaking the daily high record and marking the 12th consecutive day of record temperatures. Phoenix has also recorded eight straight days of record warm lows, adding to the severity of the heatwave.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an Excessive Heat Warning, which remains in effect through Monday evening. With temperatures expected to climb to around 110 degrees in many lower desert areas, the heat risk remains classified as "Major" to "Extreme." Residents are urged to take precautions, including staying hydrated and avoiding outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours.

This unseasonably high heat is due to a strong high-pressure ridge anchored over the Desert Southwest, with meteorological models showing 500 mb heights reaching up to 593 dm. For context, Phoenix typically sees its last 110-degree day around August 26, with the latest occurrence on record previously set on September 19, 2010.
