California Ferry Closes for Hull Inspections, Rio Vista Bridge to Undergo Multiple Weekend Closures

The J-Mack Ferry on State Route 220 has been closed for hull inspections and necessary repairs as of midnight on Sunday, September 29, 2024. This long-term closure is expected to last for 2 to 3 months, as the ferry undergoes extensive work, including Coast Guard inspections.

During this period, travelers can use the Real McCoy Ferry on State Route 84 (SR-84) as an alternative crossing option. However, Caltrans advises that both ferries could experience outages due to ongoing repair work. Motorists and ferry users are encouraged to check Caltrans Quickmap for live updates on highway and ferry conditions at quickmap.dot.ca.gov, or call the Caltrans Ferry Update Line at (510) 622-0120.

In addition, Caltrans has announced three 55-hour full weekend closures for the SR-12 Rio Vista Bridge to carry out repairs. These closures are scheduled for the following weekends:

• October 18-21
• November 1-4
• November 15-18 (tentative)
