    More Heat Records Tumble: Record-Breaking Temperatures Sweep Southern California

    SAN DIEGO, CA – Southern California experienced a series of record-breaking temperatures on October 7, 2024, with new highs and lows reported across multiple locations, according to the National Weather Service.

    Several cities saw their highest maximum temperatures tied or broken. Ramona matched its previous high of 101°F set in 1996, while Alpine reached a new high of 98°F, surpassing its 1991 record of 97°F. Campo also saw significant heat, hitting 102°F, breaking last year’s record of 99°F.

    In the desert areas, Palm Springs soared to 113°F, beating its 1996 record of 111°F. Borrego tied its previous record of 109°F from 1991.

    Meanwhile, Oceanside Harbor tied its lowest maximum temperature of 63°F, originally set in 2011.

    Several locations also experienced record-high minimum temperatures. Indio recorded a minimum of 85°F, breaking a record set in 1960, while Palm Springs reached 79°F, surpassing its 2022 record of 75°F. Lake Cuyamaca and Palomar Mountain also posted new records with minimums of 61°F and 71°F, respectively.
