Alaska Airlines Anticipates CA Thanksgiving Travel Surge and Rising Demand for Smaller Destinations

As the busiest travel season approaches, Alaska Airlines is gearing up for a busy Thanksgiving weekend, predicting a 15% increase in travelers at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) compared to last year. Across the West Coast, Alaska is also seeing a rise in demand for smaller, off-the-beaten-path destinations like Bellingham, Missoula, and Santa Rosa, with increased flight capacity to accommodate the surge.

Thanksgiving travel is expected to peak, with nearly half a million passengers flying between Friday and Sunday of the holiday weekend. Seattle and Portland hubs will also experience higher passenger numbers, with Portland seeing a 35% jump at PDX. Meanwhile, bookings to Hawaiʻi are booming as travelers look to support local recovery efforts. With 66 daily flights to the Islands, Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines are prepared for strong fall travel demand.
