Cooler Weather and Potential Rain Heading to Northern California Area Later This Week

After a stretch of sunny skies and mild temperatures, the Eureka region is set to experience a shift in weather patterns later this week. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Eureka has forecasted cooler temperatures and the possibility of rain beginning Friday, following a slight cooldown starting Wednesday.

High pressure is weakening as an upper-level trough approaches the Pacific Northwest, resulting in a dip in temperatures. Highs on Wednesday are expected to remain in the 80s, with additional coastal fog likely overnight. Temperatures may rebound slightly on Thursday before a more significant weather system moves in.

Thursday night into Friday, an upper-level low pressure system could bring rainfall to the area, particularly in southern Humboldt and northern Mendocino counties. However, the exact amount of rain remains uncertain, with forecasts showing a wide range of outcomes. Rainfall could vary from no rain in some areas to over 2.5 inches in others, particularly in the King Range region.

The rain is expected to clear by Sunday as high pressure builds, bringing dry conditions through early next week. However, there is potential for more rain as early as late Monday or Tuesday.
