Public Transit Encouraged as San Francisco Fleet Week 2024 Kicks Off Over Northern California

As San Francisco’s Fleet Week 2024 begins, public transit is being promoted as the best way to navigate the city. The event, which runs from Monday, Oct. 7 through Monday, Oct. 14, will feature popular attractions such as the Parade of Ships, air shows, live music, and ship tours along Fisherman’s Wharf, the Marina District, and The Embarcadero.

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is encouraging visitors to use buses and streetcars to avoid anticipated heavy traffic and limited parking. Other transit options include BART, San Francisco Bay Ferry, Golden Gate Buses and Ferries, and the Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART). Parking will be available at BART stations over the weekend, and more information can be found on the 511 website.

SFMTA will provide free Muni service, including Cable Cars, for individuals in uniform or those with a military ID during Fleet Week. Additional Muni service will be available on several key routes, such as the F Market & Wharves line, 49 Van Ness/Mission, and 28 19th Avenue, to accommodate increased crowds from Friday, Oct. 11 to Sunday, Oct. 13.

The Blue Angels will headline the air shows from Friday to Sunday, with daily performances starting at noon. Various road closures, including Jefferson Street, will be in effect to manage traffic during the festivities.
