Southern California is set to experience cooler temperatures and gusty winds over the weekend and into next week, according to the National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard. A weak low-pressure system is moving through Northern California, causing temperatures to fall by 1-3 degrees today, with a more pronounced cooling trend expected through Monday.

The cooling pattern will bring temperatures closer to, or slightly below, normal by Monday. Coastal areas and valleys will also experience an increase in low clouds, which are expected to push farther inland each night through Monday morning. The forecast predicts widespread low cloud cover, although some areas in San Luis Obispo (SLO) and Santa Barbara (SBA) counties may see more patchy clouds due to north-south pressure gradients.

Gusty northwest winds will be a significant factor, especially in southern Santa Barbara County and along the Interstate 5 Corridor. Wind advisories have been issued for coastal sections of southwestern Santa Barbara County and parts of the Santa Ynez Range. Winds in these areas are expected to reach advisory levels late this afternoon and continue through late tonight. Ventura County mountains and the I-5 Corridor may also see gusty winds, but they are expected to stay below advisory thresholds.

Temperatures will continue to cool on Sunday and Monday, with inland areas seeing the most noticeable drop. By Monday, highs will be closer to seasonal averages for mid-October, with some areas potentially slightly below normal. Another round of gusty northwest to north winds is anticipated for southwestern Santa Barbara County and the I-5 Corridor late Sunday afternoon into Sunday night.
