The National Weather Service in Hanford, CA, has issued its latest area forecast, predicting a significant rise in temperatures across the San Joaquin Valley this weekend. Today, residents can expect temperatures to exceed the climatological averages, with probabilities ranging from 60 to 90 percent for highs in the lower 80s. Sunday will see slightly lower probabilities of 30 to 65 percent for above-average temperatures.

Along with the rising heat, low afternoon relative humidity is expected, resulting in poor to moderate overnight recoveries, especially in mountainous and desert regions.

A low-pressure system passing to the north will bring a slight chance of precipitation to the San Francisco Bay Area and northern regions today, but the San Joaquin Valley is likely to see only increased cloud cover without significant rainfall. However, a return to more seasonal temperatures is anticipated for Sunday before highs rise again on Monday, with probabilities for maximum temperatures of 85 degrees reaching 45 to 85 percent in the Central Valley and Kern County desert.

Looking ahead to the middle of next week, the region should brace for another cooling trend, particularly on Wednesday and Thursday. There is a 20 to 60 percent chance of highs in the 70s on Wednesday, increasing to 70 to 90 percent on Thursday. A stronger trough of low pressure may bring light precipitation, although most moisture is expected to remain north of the forecast area. Snow levels during any precipitation events are anticipated to stay above 9,000 feet.

As Friday approaches, the cool temperatures will continue, but a warming trend is predicted for the following weekend, with highs expected to rise above average again. The Climate Prediction Center's 6-10 day outlook indicates near-normal temperatures and precipitation, while the 8-14 day forecast suggests a return to warmer-than-average temperatures with below-average precipitation expected.
