Amy’s Kitchen, the Petaluma-based manufacturer known for its organic and frozen foods, is set to lay off more than 300 employees later this year, according to recent documents filed with the state.

The layoffs will primarily impact workers at two facilities in Santa Rosa, with 283 positions being cut at the company’s Northpoint Parkway location and another 22 at the Dutton Avenue site.

In an interview with the North Bay Business Journal, Amy’s President Paul Schiefer explained that these layoffs are part of a larger reorganization plan aimed at ensuring the company’s viability amid a competitive market that has intensified since the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We are making these difficult decisions to streamline our operations and adapt to the evolving landscape of the food industry," Schiefer stated. "Our focus is on maintaining the quality and availability of our products while positioning ourselves for future growth."

Amy’s Kitchen is known for its wide range of grocery staples, including soups, frozen pizzas, vegetarian burgers, and burritos. The company also operates three vegetarian restaurants in the Bay Area, further diversifying its presence in the food market.

As the company navigates these changes, it remains committed to its mission of providing wholesome, organic food options to its customers.

Amy's Kitchen food is so overpriced that I stopped buying it several years ago. There's about 35 cents worth of food in one of their servings.
