Major traffic delays expected because of construction on vital California interstate

Motorists traveling along Interstate 80 (I-80) are advised to prepare for delays as multiple construction projects and emergency repairs are underway in Placer, Nevada, and Sierra counties. Caltrans has reported that while emergency repair work is nearing completion for the season, ongoing major projects will continue to impact traffic.

Drivers should anticipate delays of up to two hours, particularly along the I-80 Sierra corridor, and are encouraged to allow for extra travel time. Here’s what to expect in the coming week:

Eastbound I-80

• Placer/Nevada Bridge Preservation Project (near Magra): Lane closures will be in effect from 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. from Monday, October 14 through Thursday, October 17, with additional work scheduled from 10 p.m. Friday, October 18 to 8 a.m. Saturday, October 19.
• Monte Vista Pavement Rehabilitation Project (between Monte Vista and Drum Forebay): Lane and ramp closures will occur around the clock from 6 a.m. Monday, October 14 through 10 a.m. Friday, October 18, and again from 7 p.m. Friday, October 18 to 10 a.m. Saturday, October 19.
• Yuba Pass Separation Overhead Bridge Project (between Yuba Gap and SR-20): Lane closures will be in place from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, October 14 through Thursday, October 17, with additional work on Friday, October 18 from 6 a.m. to noon.
• Placer/Nevada Bridge Preservation Project (near Crystal Lake): Lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, October 14 through Thursday, October 17, concluding at 6 a.m. Friday, October 18.
• Soda Springs Pavement Rehabilitation Project (between Troy and Soda Springs): Lane closures will occur from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday, October 13, and then continuously from 6 a.m. Monday, October 14 through noon Friday, October 18, with further work scheduled from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, October 19.

Westbound I-80

• Westbound I-80 Restriping Project (between CHP Truck Scales and SR-267): Expect lane closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, October 14 through Thursday, October 17.
• Emergency Repairs (between the Old Ag Station and Donner Pass Road): Lane and ramp closures from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Wednesday, October 16 and Thursday, October 17.
• Soda Springs Pavement Rehabilitation Project (between Soda Springs and Troy): Continuous lane closures from 6 a.m. Tuesday, October 15 through 6 p.m. Friday, October 18.
• Placer/Nevada Bridge Preservation Project (near Crystal Lake): Lane closures from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday, October 14 through Thursday, October 17, ending at 7 a.m. Friday, October 18.
