The National Weather Service reports that seasonable temperatures are set to return to the region today and Monday, following a brief period of cooler weather. However, residents should prepare for a potential light rainfall event midweek.

High pressure is settling in over the area, following a passing upper-level low that brought recent rain. This shift in weather has resulted in low clouds and fog across many interior valleys. Fortunately, the dew points remain high enough to prevent frost formation overnight.

As temperatures trend upward through Monday, cloud cover is expected to primarily linger along the coastline. Looking ahead, an upper-level trough is predicted to approach the West Coast by Tuesday, which could bring another round of rain.

Recent weather models have shown a significant shift toward drier conditions than previously anticipated. The latest forecast indicates a 40 percent chance of exceeding 1 inch of rain in Del Norte County and a similar chance of more than a quarter inch for Humboldt County. Further south and east, such as in Ukiah, the odds drop to 25 percent for more than a tenth of an inch of rainfall.
