California desert city breaks record for the most number of days 110-degrees or hotter in one year

Palm Springs has set a new record for the most days reaching 110°F or higher in a single year, according to the U.S. National Weather Service in San Diego. In 2024, the city experienced 83 days of extreme heat, surpassing the previous record of 66 days set in 2020.

Other areas in Southern California also broke temperature records. Ramona hit 100°F or higher on 21 days this year, breaking its 1982 record of 17 days. Though data from Indio and Thermal were incomplete, these figures reflect an intensifying trend of extreme heat across the region in 2024.
