PLACER COUNTY – Caltrans is advising drivers to expect delays along State Route 28 (SR-28) in North Lake Tahoe next week due to ongoing broadband installation work. This project, managed by Teichert Construction, is part of a broader initiative by the California Department of Technology aimed at improving high-speed internet access in rural communities.

Motorists should be prepared for one-way traffic control at various locations along SR-28 during the following times:

    • Sunday, October 13 at 7 p.m. to Friday, October 18 at 6 a.m.: Work between Center Street and Ridgewood Road. No work will occur from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
    • Monday, October 14 at 7 a.m. to Thursday, October 17 at midnight, and Friday, October 18 from 7 a.m. to noon: Work between the Nevada state line and Speedboat Avenue in Brockway. No work will occur from midnight to 7 a.m. during weekdays.
    • Monday, October 14 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.: Work between Granite Road and Agatam Avenue West.
    • Monday, October 14 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.: Work between the SR-89 junction and the Tahoe State Park entrance in Tahoe City.
    • Tuesday, October 15 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.: Work between the Tahoe State Park entrance and Star Harbor, and between Onyx Street and Granite Road in Carnelian Bay.
    • Wednesday, October 16 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.: Work between Star Harbor and Dollar Drive, and between Center Street and Onyx Street.
    • Thursday, October 17 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.: Work near Dollar Drive and between Center Street and Terrace Drive.
    • Friday, October 18 from 6 a.m. to noon: Work between Chinquapin Drive and Robert Avenue, and between Terrace Drive and Jeffrey Way.

Motorists may experience delays of up to one hour between Tahoe City and Kings Beach on SR-28 due to these construction activities. Travelers are encouraged to allow extra time, particularly during school drop-off and pick-up hours. Notably, all construction work will be suspended on weekends and holidays.
