    Rain, Thunderstorms, and Colder Weather Headed for Northern Nevada

    RENO, NV – The second half of October kicks off with a sharp change in weather as two systems move through the region. Showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected today, with cooler temperatures settling in. A stronger cold front on Thursday will bring gusty north winds, sharply colder conditions, and another round of showers, possibly including snow in higher elevations.

    Valley temperatures are expected to drop below freezing early Friday, marking an abrupt end to the extended growing season. Ridge top gusts could reach 60-80 mph, causing choppy conditions on Lake Tahoe.

    A stronger cold front arrives Thursday, bringing gusty north winds up to 40 mph, additional showers, and a significant temperature drop. Highs will fall below 60°F in northern areas, with snow expected in higher elevations. Freezing temperatures are likely in valley regions by early Friday morning. Warmer conditions are expected by Sunday.
