Another downtown San Francisco retail hub is on shaky ground as the iconic Metreon mall is now up for sale. Known for its bustling Target store, popular Starbucks, IMAX theater, and diverse food options like burgers and boba tea, the Metreon is searching for a new owner, as first reported by the San Francisco Business Times.

The Metreon, which opened in 1999 as a 350,000-square-foot entertainment destination, was originally developed by Sony. It aimed to be a cutting-edge urban hotspot, featuring multimedia attractions, Sony PlayStation and Sony Style stores, and a luxurious IMAX theater. However, financial difficulties plagued the property from the start.
