Governor Newsom Opens 68 Affordable Homes in desirable, expensive California resort town

SACRAMENTO — In line with Governor Gavin Newsom’s directive to develop new housing on underutilized state land, the Sugar Pine Village project officially opened 68 affordable housing units today in South Lake Tahoe. This initiative marks the second project under the executive order, transforming previously vacant state-owned land into much-needed residences for families and workers in the Tahoe region.

Sugar Pine Village includes a mix of 12 studios, 12 one-bedrooms, 23 two-bedrooms, and 21 three-bedroom units, all designed to support the local workforce and reduce traffic congestion by keeping residents within the community. Department of General Services Director Ana M. Lasso praised the project, saying, “With Sugar Pine Village, DGS is proud to be part of creating a sustainable and inclusive community that reflects the values of South Lake Tahoe.”

Tens of thousands of homeless. Underlying this is Bidenomics. Feeling the pinch.
