Mild Weather Ahead for Northern Nevada, But Storms on the Horizon

The National Weather Service in Reno has announced a forecast of dry and mild weather for Northern Nevada as we head into the upcoming week. Light winds will prevail through midweek, with increased southwest winds expected on Monday, particularly in northeast California and northern Washoe County, where gusts could reach up to 35 mph.

Daytime highs are anticipated to be in the 60s and 70s, with Wednesday expected to be the warmest day of the week. Fortunately, humidity levels above 20% will mitigate any fire concerns in the region. Elsewhere, lighter breezes in the 20-25 mph range are anticipated.

However, a shift in weather patterns is expected later in the week. A storm system moving in from the eastern Pacific is likely to bring gusty winds, cooler temperatures, and light rain showers beginning Thursday evening, primarily affecting northeast California, northern Washoe County, and the Sierra from Lake Tahoe northward. The chances for light showers are projected to peak between 15-25% by Friday morning.

As we look beyond this week, models indicate the potential for continued unsettled weather and below-normal temperatures as we transition from October to November. Residents are advised to prepare for changing weather conditions as the month progresses.
