Flash Flooding Threatens Eastern New Mexico as Severe Storms Devastate Cities

Eastern New Mexico faces another day of heavy rainfall and severe storms, with flash flooding a major concern, especially in areas like Roswell that were hit hard over the weekend. The National Weather Service has extended a Flash Flood Watch through tonight, warning of river flooding along the Pecos River and surrounding areas.

Showers and storms, fueled by an unseasonably strong low-pressure system, are expected to persist throughout the day, with some areas seeing rainfall rates of over 2 inches per hour. Severe storms may also bring large hail, particularly in northeast New Mexico. Conditions are set to clear by late Monday, with calmer, drier weather arriving midweek.
