248-Units of Affordable Housing will Open in Serene, Popular California tourist hotspot

Governor Gavin Newsom announced today the opening of Sugar Pine Village, a new affordable housing project in South Lake Tahoe, which has launched 68 units for residents. This development, set to grow into a 248-unit community, converts previously vacant state-owned land into housing for local families and workers. “Today we advance our strategy of transforming underutilized state properties into thriving affordable living communities for Californians,” Newsom stated, highlighting the project's role in creating hundreds of new homes in the region.

Sugar Pine Village is the largest affordable housing initiative in South Lake Tahoe's history, featuring 12 studios, 12 one-bedrooms, 23 two-bedrooms, and 21 three-bedroom units. Designed to support the local workforce, the project aims to reduce traffic congestion while promoting sustainable living. All units are designated for low-income families and the development includes amenities such as parks, walking trails, and community spaces.

Developed by Related California, the project is constructed with modular units, utilizing environmentally friendly practices and is fully electric. The next phase of Sugar Pine Village, adding 60 more units, is already in progress and expected to open in October 2025. “It’s inspiring to see Sugar Pine Village open its doors and provide urgently needed housing to the South Lake Tahoe community,” said Ann Silverberg, CEO of Related California’s NorCal Affordable and Northwest Divisions.

After you move in, GET TO WORK! I hear our covid part timers are unhappy because when they're here for 3 months out if the year.... there's not enough workers to serve them!

It's like using a tiny bandage to treat a severed limb, it's just going to bring more crime and junkies. Keep that crap out of Tahoe and stay in the city.
