Recipe: Best Soft Christmas Cookies, Ohio Style

    Ingredients:

    • 3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • 1 ½ cups white sugar
    • 1 cup margarine, softened
    • 2 large eggs
    • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

    Directions:

    1. Begin by gathering all your ingredients.
    2. In a medium-sized bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set this aside for later.
    3. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the sugar and softened margarine until smooth and creamy.
    4. Beat the eggs, one at a time, into the butter mixture, and stir in the vanilla extract. Slowly add the flour mixture, stirring until the dough just comes together.
    5. Once combined, wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 2 hours to firm it up.
    6. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) and grease two cookie sheets.
    7. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use your favorite holiday cookie cutters to cut out fun shapes, and arrange them on the prepared baking sheets.
    8. Bake each batch for 6 to 8 minutes, or until the edges are just starting to turn golden.
    9. After removing them from the oven, allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
    10. Once cooled, serve these soft, sweet cookies to friends and family, and enjoy the holiday magic.
