Street to get lights again
Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — The power is still out on one of Albuquerque’s deadliest stretch of road for pedestrians. Public Service Company of New Mexico spokesperson Kai Porter said all 17 streetlights between Pennsylvania and Louisiana on Central went out on July 12th, when a driver crashed into one light pole, cutting power to the others. Porter adding, that PNM, has scheduled work to fix them every weekend since the incident, but has been redirected to restore weather-related outages affecting customers. Thursday saw the first day of repairs, and those driving on Central can expect possible lane closures and delays as the repairs are ongoing. The Albuquerque Journal reports that the affected 3-mile stretch of Central, between San Mateo and Eubank, has seen 34 people fatally struck by drivers between 2018 and 2023.

[1] Plea deal expected for man accused of murdering Muslim men in Albuquerque – A convicted murderer accused of killing Muslim men in Albuquerque two years ago could be changing his plea in two of the cases against him. In March, Muhammad Syed was convicted for the murder of 41-year-old Aftab Hussein back in July of 2022. Syed was also charged with the murders of Muhammad Afzaal. Hussain as well as Naeem Hussein were killed around the same time. The trial for Afzaal Hussain’s murder was supposed to start next week. However, that could change after Syed’s attorney confirmed that a judge has approved to a change of plea hearing next Tuesday.
