Dozens of invasive Japanese beetles caught in the Tri-Cities area
OLYMPIA, Wash - The Washington State Department of Agriculture is asking residents in the Tri-Cities to report Japanese beetle sightings after already catching 38 beetles this summer. That is seven times more beetles than last summer when the WSDA caught five in Pasco. They are an invasive species and pose a threat to local agricultural communities.
Exhausted Fire Crews Watch As Washington Burns
The Pioneer Fire in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has now expanded to 25,688 acres, 14% contained. Firefighters have been working diligently to protect the community of Stehekin through strategic firing operations. These controlled burns, conducted about 8 miles southeast of Stehekin, have created a buffer zone by removing dry and dead ground fuels.

Body of drowning victim recovered
The body of a 49-year-old Portland woman who drowned last weekend in the Willamette River was recovered Wednesday morning, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office reported. Naomi Pomeroy had been floating the river Saturday with two others on tubes and a paddle board that had been secured together. A BCSO investigation determined that the group got caught on an exposed snag in the water and the victim was pulled under and held by the paddle board leash.
