Presidents Cup Scores And Live Updates: USA Enjoy Emphatic Clean Sweep On Day 1 At Royal Montreal

The 15th Presidents Cup is underway at Royal Montreal in Canada where the Internationals were thrashed 5-0 in the opening fourballs on Thursday.

The hosts are looking to win for the second time in the match's history and first time since 1998. But Jim Furyk's US team got off to a brilliant start and they have never lost the trophy after winning the opening session.

Despite USA dominating , the match had an edge on day one, especially when Tom Kim appeared to try and goad his opponent and pal Scottie Scheffler, the world No.1.

Kim celebrated gleefully after successive birdies on the seventh and eighth before he and partner Sungjae Im walked to the ninth tee with the Americans were yet to putt out which didn't impress USA.  After winning 3&2 alongside Russell Henley, Scheffler was about Kim's behaviour, he replied: "We are friends after but not friends during it, I guess."

The Presidents Cup continues on Friday with the foursomes when Mike Weir's Internationals must find their feet - and make some putts - fast to avoid being humiliated.

The 15th Presidents Cup is underway as Mike Weir's Internationals look to win the cup back from the USA for the first time in 26 years.

We have five four ball games today, with Jason Day and Byeong-hun An taking on Xander Schauffele and Tony Finau in the first match.

The United States will look to defend the title they won at Quail Hollow two years ago, but the International side will be looking to spring a surprise upset for their first cup victory since 1998 - 26 years ago!

THE BATTLE FOR THE CUP BEGINS SHORTLY

The opening match is set to tee off around 11.35am local time in Canada, so just under 10 minutes time.

One of Tony Finau and Xander Schauffele will hit the opening tee shot to kick start their match against the International's Jason Day and Byeong Hun An

Tony Finau sends a driver up the middle of the fairway to get the match underway!

MATCH ONE IS GO!

After Finau's booming drive, the remaining three players all miss the fairway.

Schauffele's drive leaks well right of the fairway whilst Jason Day finds lush rough to the left. An finds the lighter rough right of the fairway and should have a decent lie for his approach.

SCHAUFFELE SPINS ONE INSIDE 10FT ON NO.1

Xander's tee shot was so wayward he got the advantage of the trampled down rough where the spectators were standing. He lands one 25ft past the hole and spins it back to inside 10ft.

Finau, An and Day are all also safely aboard the green with An having the best look at birdie from around 20ft.

MACKENZIE HUGHES SHOTGUNNING BEERS ON THE FIRST TEE

Back on the tee, Mackenzie Hughes was down on one knee downing a can of Stella Artrois, much to the enjoyment of the fans.

As you can imagine, he isn't playing today...

JASON DAY WALKS IN A LONG BIRDIE PUTT ON THE FIRST!

Jason Day does an early walk as his 25ft birdie putt drops in on the 1st.

It left Xander Schauffele a 12ft putt to half the hole with birdies but he misses low.

The International Team draw first blood in Canada.

MATCH TWO UNDERWAY

Sahith Theegala and Collin Morikawa take on Min Woo Lee and veteran Adam Scott in game number two, and all but Scott find the fairway off the first tee.

Scott missed his drive long and right in a similar position to Schauffele in match one. He'll have a trampled down lie in the rough but may have trees in his way to the green.

SCHAUFFELE WINS THE SECOND HOLE WITH BIRDIE

After zipping a wedge in to 3ft, Schauffele wins the second hole for the USA.

He and Finau are back to AS against Byeong Hun An and Jason Day.

EARLY LEAD FOR USA IN MATCH TWO

Morikawa rolls in a 20ft birdie putt on the first for the USA. Min Woo Lee cannot match him from a similar distance as the visitors take the lead in match two.

MATCH THREE UNDERWAY

Arguably the match of the day on paper, Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley find the fairway with their drives in their match against Tom Kim and Ben An.

Kim is the only man to miss a fairway. Early signs could be worrying for the International team, who have missed a number of fairways already, unlike their opponents.

If they have any chance of winning the cup, they'll have to hit more fairways - it's hard to make birdies from the rough.

THEEGALA MISSED CHANCE TO MOVE TO 2UP

A slippy birdie putt down the hill on the 2nd slides by for Theegala. He misses the 12ft effort but remains 1UP alongside Morikawa.

MORE RED ON THE BOARD AS HENLEY BIRDIES THE FIRST

After Im's birdie try lipped out, Presidents Cup rookie Russell Henley drops in a 12ft birdie putt on the opening hole to steal an early lead for himself and Scottie Scheffler.

MATCH FOUR UNDERWAY

This is a recurring theme, as Taylor Pendrith misses the fairway off the first tee after both Americans find the fairway.

His partner Bezuidenhout is safely in the short grass however, albeit a decent distance behind Keegan Bradley and Wyndham Clark.

TOM KIM IN HIS ELEMENT

Kim was arguably the star of the show in the 2022 Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow, stealing the show as a rookie.

He was quite the showman, as expected, upon his arrival to the first tee. He and partner Im would lose the opening hole.

US TAKE THE LEAD IN MATCH FOUR

Bradley rolls in a 10ft birdie putt on the 1st to take the lead over the Internationals.

This has not been a good start for the hosts.

MATCH FIVE UNDERWAY AS ALL MATCHES NOW ON THE COURSE

Cantlay becomes only the second American from ten players to miss the fairway on the first, but Sam Burns safely finds the short grass.

In what is becoming a theme, both Matsuyama and Conners miss the fairway. Advantage to the U.S already.

BIRDIE ON THE SIXTH FOR Byeong Hun An WHO HALVES WITH Xander Schauffele

The top match remains all square after birdies on the par 5 sixth for Xander Schauffele and Ben An.

Second match also remains halved after pars on the par 3 fifth

Adam Scott has followed Collin Morikawa into the hole for a par 3 on the 5th and the second match is all squared too.

COOL PUTTING FROM PENDRITH ON THE third

Taylor Pendrith has just made a clutch par putt on the third for a half to ensure the international side remain just one down in the third match after Wyndham Clark was in for four already.

CHIP in MAGIC FROM AN ON THE SEVENTH

The top match remains all square despite An chipping in the hole for a birdie two on the seventh but Finau makes a half with his putt for a two.

SCHEFFLER MAKES A PAR AT THE PAR 3 FIFTH

World No.1 Scheffler has been playing second fiddle to partner Russell Henley in the third match but has just contributed on the par 3 fifth with a three before Sungjae Im followed him in for a half. USA remain one up in this third match out.

Corey Conners enjoying plenty of support

Canadian Corey Conners has started well in Montreal where he and partner Hideki Matsuyama are one up through three holes against Sam Burns and Patrick Cantlay. Burns just putted in for birdie but Matsuyama walked his birdie putt in from about 12 yards for the half to keep his pairing ahead.

MIN WOO LEE'S BIRDIE PUTS THE INTERNATIONALS AHEAD

Min Woo Lee has just won the par 5 sixth with a birdie four as Morikawa and Theegala then failed to chip in for the half. The International pairing of Lee and Scott are now one up.

ADAM SCOTT STIFFS A WEDGE AT THE PAR 3 SEVENTH

Scott is in close to six feet at the short par 3 seventh with the international side , who are one up, enjoying some momentum. The USA pairing are also on the green but Morikawa and Theegala are 12 feet and 20 feet away respectively.

SCHEFFLER SPINS A WEDGE IN CLOSE AT THE PAR 5 SIXTH

Scheffler is pushing to extend his one up lead with Henley after spinning a wedge in close at the par 5 sixth against Sungjae Im and Tom Kim.

DRAMA AT THE PAR 3 SEVENTH AS MORIKAWA WINS HOLE

Despite Adam Scott being in close for a birdie putt, the Australian failed to follow Morikawa in at the par 3 seventh and the second match is now tied.

SCHEFFLER AND HENLEY MOVE TWO UP

Scheffler and Henley are looking strong against Min Woo Lee and Adam Scott after Henley's birdie at the par 5 sixth won the hole.

FINAU AND SCHAUFFELE ONE UP AT THE TURN

Finau and Schauffele look a fine pairing and made two birdies apiece on the front nine. They are one up at the turn after Schauffele made par on the ninth to match Jason Day.

Patrick Cantlay looking to strike back in bottom match

Patrick Cantlay has drilled an iron in close at the par 3 fifth with a nine foot birdie putt to come as he and Sam Burns look to get their game back to level against Connors and Matsuyama.

ADAM SCOTT PUTS HIM AND MIN WOO LEE BACK INFRONT

Scott has just birdied the par 4 eighth to put the Internationals one up in the second match.

CANTLAY CONVERTS HIS BIRDIE PUTT TO MAKE HIS MATCH LEVEL

The bottom match is now level after Cantlay converted his birdie putt at the par 3 fifth.

DRAMA BETWEEN 'FRIENDS' KIM AND SCHEFFLER AT THE SEVENTH

Tom Kim made a birdie on the par 3 seventh but then pal and fellow Dallas resident Scheffler responded and celebrated after following him for a two. USA duo Scheffler and Henley remain two up in the third match.

PENDRITH TAKES HIS MATCH BACK TO ALL SQUARE

More good putting from Taylor Pendrith on the par 5 sixth where he has made a par against Bradley and Clark to ensure the Internationals trail by just one hole.

TOM KIM GETTING FIRED UP

Kim has just fired himself up and the internationals with a birdie putt from 24 feet on the eighth, leaving Henley and Scheffler to try to respond from about half the distance which they fail to do and this match is back to USA one up. Controversially the Internationals have gone straight to the ninth tee while USA are still putting.

USA TAKE THE LEAD IN THE BOTTOM MATCH

Sam Burns and Patrick Cantlay are now leading in the bottom match after Burns made a four with an up and down at the par 5 sixth.

HENLEY AND SCHEFFLER'S GAME IS GETTING VERY TASTY

Henley has just put his approach at the par 4 ninth to eight feet. Henley and Scheffler lead by one hole after successive birdies from Tom Kim but both the Internationals have come up short with their approaches. USA are looking good to go two up with Scheffler also 18 feet away in two.

ANIMATED MATSUYAMA FIST PUMPS AFTER WINNING SEVENTH

Matsuyama has just taken the bottom match back to all square after the Japanese pro drained a 22 foot birdie putt on the par 3 seventh which USA were unable to match and we are all square in the bottom match.

KIM AND IM ESCAPE THE NINTH WITH A PAR

Kim and Im remain just one down against Scheffler and Henley who both failed to birdie the par 4 ninth despite having good birdie looks.

MIN WOO LEE MAKES PAR AT THE TENTH

Min Woo Lee and Adam Scott are the only International pair to be leading in the second match and they have just made pars on the ninth and tenth to preserve their slender one-up advantage.

BRILLIANT SHOT BY BRADLEY INTO THE NINTH

Keegan Bradley, who is one up with Clark against Bezuidenhout and Penrith, has just put his approach in right on top of the flag at the par four ninth. He and Clark are both closer than their opponents.

CANTLAY'S BIRDIE ON THE EIGHT PUTS USA IN BOTTOM MATCH

The bottom match is a real see-saw affair and Cantlay has just made a birdie on the eighth to put USA back infront.

Bezuidenhout makes a belated first birdie on the ninth

Clark and Bradley are made to sweat for a half on the ninth as they remain one up after Bezuidenhout's first birdie with a 13-foot putt. Bradley converts to keep USA ahead.

KIM AND SCHEFFLER CONTINUING TO NEEDLE EACH OTHER

Kim and Scheffler are good mates but it really doesn't appear like it today. Kim has just rolled in a decent birdie putt from 20 feet on the 10th for his third birdie in four holes to halve the hole after the world No.1 made a three from 25 feet on the par 4 tenth. USA remain one up.

INTERNATIONALS LEADING IN JUST THE SECOND MATCH

Min Woo Lee and Adam Scott are the only Internationals pairing to be leading after both Min Woo and Morikawa made par on the 11th.

FINAU AND SCHAUFFELE LOOKING STRONG IN OPENING AME

Finau and Schauffele are two up in the top match with five holes left and looking good for victory against Byeong Hun An and Jason Day. They are six under combined and it is going to take something special to beat them. The duo are also in decent shape off the tee on the 14th.

BREAKTHROUGH FOR INTERNATIONALS IN FOURTH MATCH

The internationals are back to level in the fourth match after a birdie on the tenth against Bradley and Clark.

SCHEFFLER AND HENLEY'S MATCH STILL VERY CLOSE

Tensions in the Scheffler and Henley against Kim and Im match seemed to have calmed down after three straight halves. USA remain one up with seven to play but there is no doubt the visitors were annoyed on the eighth green when their opponents walked off to the ninth tee without having the courtesy to watch them putt out.

HENLEY RIPS A FAIRWAY WOOD IN CLOSE AT THE PAR 5 12TH

Russell Henley, playing alongside Scheffler, is impressing today and has come in on half of USA's holes. He has just fired an incredible fairway wood from 271 yards to 20 feet to set-up an eagle putt. USA are one up and could double their lead here but Scheffler and Kim end up halving in pars.

INTERNATIONALS CAPTAIN MIKE WEIR STILL UPBEAT

Weir assessed: "We can flip these anytime. The matches are very close. Our guys have to keep hanging in there. You just give them all a little pep talk and try and be positive."

CLARK WITH A BIG PUTT ON THE 11TH

Clark and Bradley are back to one up in the fourth match after Clark drained a huge putt from 45 feet for a birdie three to win the hole on the par 4 11th.

FANTASTIC CHIP IN FROM FINAU  BUT INTERNATIONALS STRIKE BACK

Finau, playing with Schauffele, holed out in the top game at the 13th for a half from green side rough but he has lost the par 4 15th to a An's birdie for the Internationals who are just one down.

USA REMAIN UP WITH SIX HOLES REMAINING IN THE THIRD MATCH

Scheffler and Henley won the first hole and have led ever since. At the par 3 13th, Scheffler is in closest out of the four players with a tee shot to 17 feet for USA who are one up against Kim and Im.

FURYK PREDICTS TIGHT FINISH OVER TRICKY CLOSING HOLES

Furyk said: "It has been even, guys are going to have to grind it out." Furyk also admitted there is a growing rivalry between Scheffler and Kim as he added: "I know how competitive they both are."

BIG TURNAROUND IN TOP MATCH

It is now all square in the top match where Jason Day's par on 16th was enough to level the match and complete wins on successive holes for the Internationals who were two down and staring defeat in the face. But Day then misses the green and An is unable to get close before Schauffele fires it in close.

AGONY FOR AN AS HE LIPS OUT ON THE 17TH

Great effort from distance on the 17th in the top match which is all square. An's birdie effort from 34 feet lips out though and Schauffele will have a birdie putt to win the hole which the American makes from eight feet.

BRADLEY'S BIRDIE PUTT RESTORES USA'S LEAD

Keegan Bradley just made a decent birdie two on the par 3 13th to put himself and Clark one up with five to play against Bezuidenhout and Pendrith.

BURNS HOLES OUT FOR A BIRDIE IN THE BOTTOM MATCH

Burns and Cantlay are now two-up with five holes left against Connors and Matsuyama in the bottom match after Burns' birdie on the par 3 13th.

HENLEY JUST POURED IN ANOTHER BIRDIE

Henley just made his and Scheffler's seventh birdie of the day in the third match and USA are now three up with three to play against Kim and Im, who is yet to make a single birdie himself.

FANTASTIC APPROACH FROM SCHAUFFELE AT THE 18TH

Schauffele has shown his class in the final two holes to surely clinch a point for USA. The two-time Major winner just birdied the 17th in the top match and has put his approach in to three feet at the 18th to set up a likely birdie and the win.

SCHAUFFELE'S SUCCESSIVE BIRDIES CLINCH OPENING USA Point

After the Internationals levelled the match with two holes left, Schauffele has just finished birdie-birdie to get the USA's first full point.

Taylor Pendrith with a superb approach at the par 4 15th

Taylor Pendrith is doing his best to keep the Internationals in the fourth match which has been a real see-saw. He makes a three but so does Bradley whose USA pairing remain one up.

MORIKAWA AND THEEGALA HEAD UP THE LAST IN THE LEAD

Morikawa has just missed a putt to win the match on the 17th but USA are one up going up the 18th against Min Woo Lee and Adam Scott.

SCHEFFLER CLOSES OUT VICTORY ON THE 16TH

Impressive duo Scheffler and Henley have just closed out a 3&2 victory over Im and Kim in a match which had a bit of needle after the Internationals walked to the ninth green while USA were still putting out on the eighth. Scheffler said: "I think it was a fun match. It is all in good fun, we enjoy competing against each other. We are friends after but not friends during it, I guess."

THEEGALA HITS A SUPERB SHOT INTO last AS EYES HIS FIRST BIRDIE

Morikawa and Theegala are heading up the last one-up and they should be good to claim victory after the latter put his approach from 167 yards to less than three feet against Min Woo Lee and Adam Scott. Theegala just tapped in for his belated first birdie of the day to win the point one up.

USA DEBUTANT THEEGALA REFLECTS ON HIS FIRST WIN WITH MORIKAWA

Theegala said: "I was really nervous and definitely thought about what I was doing a couple of times but it was awesome, I had so much fun out there. It is the best."

NEITHER CLARK OR BRADLEY GET IT CLOSE ON PAR 3 17TH

USA are one up in the penultimate match but Clark and Bradley are 37 and 50-feet away respectively which has allowed Bezuidenhout to take advantage with a tee shot to six feet. This game is close.

FINE SHOT FROM CANTLAY INTO THE 16TH

Cantlay could have a putt at the 16th to win the match after firing in an iron close from 186 yards to 14 feet with USA two up.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout misses birdie putt on 17th to tie match

Great play from Christiaan Bezuidenhout on 17th who put his tee shot at the par 3 to seven foot but he missed the putt and Bradley and Clark go up the last one up.

CANTLAY AND BURNS HEAD TO THE 17TH TEE

Cantlay and Burns are two up with two to play as they head to the 17th tee after Cantlay's birdie putt came up short on 16.

MATSUYAMA WITH A FINE TEE SHOT ON THE PAR 3 17TH

USA duo Cantlay and Burns are two up on the 17th looking to close out victory but Matsuyama is in closest off the tee and should have a putt to take the match up the last.

IN PENULTIMATE MATCH , INTERNATIONALS STRUGGLING

Bradley and Clark are in the box seat on the last against Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Taylor Pendrith with the South African in the water needing a drop and Pendrith in the sand. Bradley has played up to 20 feet but Pendrith has played up close to 10 feet with a fine shot and Clark is also in close.

MATSUYAMA MISSES A MUST MAKE ON 17 FOR BIRDIE

Matsuyama hit a fine shot into 17th but missed the birdie and Cantlay and Burns have won 2&1 in the final match.

BRILLIANT PUTT FROM BRADLEY TO COMPLETE CLEAN SWEEP

USA have won the opening session 5-0 after a superb birdie putt from Keegan Bradley on the 18th to win his match with Clark over Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Taylor Pendrith.
