Golf was the third most searched Olympic sport in America during Paris 2024 according to an analytical breakdown of Google searches.

Held at Le Golf National, both the men’s and women’s tournaments delivered excitement and drama. Scottie Scheffler won gold for Team USA in the men’s with Lydia Ko taking home gold for New Zealand in the women’s.

With the Games completed, new research has revealed which events of the 2024 Olympics were talked about the most across America. Whether celebrated for their incredible performances or stirred by controversies, these sports captured the nation’s attention.

Sports betting experts at Responsible Gambling analyzed the average number of monthly Google searches in the US for terms related to different Olympic events, such as ‘Team USA breaking’ and ‘when is the Olympic boxing final,’ to determine which events sparked the most conversations.

Taking top spot was ‘Basketball’, with 38,100 Google searches in the past month in the US. The two most searched terms related to Olympic basketball were ‘basketball Olympics’ and ‘US basketball Olympic team.’

In second place was ‘Breaking’, with 20,537 Google searches. This style of street dance made its debut as an Olympic sport this year although it has been announced that it will be dropped from the rotation in the next Olympic games. One of this year’s most talked about performances was by Raygun, the Australian athlete who scored zero points and sparked much social media controversy.

Golf finished clear in third, with a search volume of 14,013.

The Olympic field was restricted to 60 golfers for each of the men’s and women’s competitions.

The IGF utilized the official world golf rankings to create the Olympic Golf Rankings as a method of determining eligibility which ruled out the participation of any LIV Golfers.
