Sustainability Report: Seeking food stability through community gardening
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - For seven years, the Fairbanks Soil and Water Conservation District has been running a community garden program in the Golden Heart City. In addition to managing a community garden at Corinthian Baptist Church, the Conservation District helps organizations around Fairbanks to set up gardens of their own, including Zion Lutheran Church, the Bread Line, and the Fairbanks Community Food Bank.

I have been trying to figure out how to write this article. There have been so many changes in the last few months. My first drafts, I felt like I was writing a book. Egegik District closed due to illegal fishing
It’s safe to say that most fishermen are willing to work with fair rules that protect their industry. It’s also safe to say that everyone bends those rules to a degree. But on the northline in Egegik this season things have reportedly gotten out of hand. A dearth of fish has led some harvesters to fish was over the line in hopes of getting better catches.
Anchorage Police Cleared in Fatal Shooting of Tyler
A comprehensive state review justified the use of deadly force by three Anchorage police officers in the fatal shooting of Tyler May. The Office of Special Prosecutions investigated and found May had recklessly fired his gun and screamed before walking towards the senior center. This incident was a culmination of a series of events that posed a significant threat to public safety.
Rocket suffers ‘irrecoverable damage’ in fire at Kodiak spaceport
A fire last week caused “irrecoverable damage” to a rocket that was initially expected to launch this summer from the Pacific Spaceport Complex-Alaska on Kodiak Island. According to a press release from the Alaska Aerospace Corporation, which operates the spaceport, a Friday ground test went awry at the Narrow Cape facility when a fire developed on a launch pad during a routine ground test at about 8:30 p.m.

Progress Days Kick Off This Weekend In Soldotna

Assembly to interview former Sitka magistrate for attorney position
The Sitka Assembly will interview a former Sitka Superior Court magistrate for the open city attorney job. At its regular meeting last night (7-23-24) the assembly agreed to interview Sitka attorney and former magistrate Rachel Jones, one of two applicants for the position. The assembly declined to offer the second applicant an interview.
