With unlikely stories, family heritages or mere coincidence to back them up, the University of Georgia’s campus is filled this fall with many freshmen that share its name. According to the Class of 2028 admitted student profile, in March of 2024, there were over 43,000 total applicants, and over 15,900 were admitted for the fall 2024 semester. Alongside other statistics such as GPAs and test scores, the university also included the fact that 25 of these freshmen share the first name “Georgia.”

Bulldog Olympians Featured In Library Exhibit
Celebrate the Olympic glory of University of Georgia Athletics this fall by visiting a new exhibit on display at the UGA Special Collections Libraries. The exhibit Bulldog Olympians takes viewers through decades of the international competition, which has hosted more than 200 UGA future, current or former student-athletes competing for Team USA or their home countries. The display includes original Olympic artifacts and rarely seen photographs of Georgia's Olympians, including a look behind the scenes from retired swimming and diving coach Jack Bauerle, who coached at multiple Games and was the head women's coach at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
