Weather Alert Update: Multiple trees and power lines down in Walton County, Monroe and Social Circle
Willow Drive and East Hightower Trail at Vine Circle in Social Circle temporarily closed. Walton County and city officials are reporting that there are multiple trees and power lines down due to the storm. Social Circle Fire Chief Ken Zaydel reports that fire crews are out on Willow Drive and East Hightower Trail at Vine Circle with down power lines. Both roads are temporarily closed until power company arrives. Walton County Assistant Fire Chief said there are multiple trees down in Monroe as well, including several on North Broad, and one on East Spring near Felker.
Athens-Clarke County Prepares to Distribute $957K in HUD Funds for Affordable Housing Initiatives
The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government’s Housing and Community Development Department has announced the availability of nearly $1 million in federal funding for affordable housing efforts. Approximately $957,320 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's HOME Investment Partnerships Program will be up for grabs to increase and preserve low-income housing in the Athens-Clarke County area. According to their announcement, these funds are targeted to provide gap financing to both non-profit and for-profit housing entities looking to tackle local housing issues.

Commissioner Amrey Harden recently presented a proclamation on behalf of the Oconee County Board of Commissioners to retiring Scoutmaster Dr. Paul Matthews on the occasion of Dr. Matthews’ 30th anniversary as the Scoutmaster of Oconee County’s Troop 149.
