FARIBAULT, Minn. — Contraband isn't new to prisons, but investigators are warning that Minnesota's prison system is being inundated by mail laced with synthetic opioids."I've been in this department for 27 years, and this is one of our largest problems," John Melvin, director of the office of special investigations at the Minnesota Department of Corrections, explained to WCCO Investigates. MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Department of Public Safety unveiled a new series of billboards meant to raise awareness about missing Indigenous relatives in the state.Eight billboards feature eight missing Indigenous people from Minnesota: Leo Coleman Cortez, Kateri Mishow, Mato Dow, Nevaeh Kingbird, Melissa Eagle Shield, Melissa Burt, Jeremy Jourdain and April Geyer.The DPS says the billboards can be seen in Minneapolis, Burnsville, Shoreview, Mounds View, Maplewood and Columbus Township.The Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives (MMIR) office worked with Missing Children Minnesota and Clear Channel Communication on the billboards. Wednesday’s Northwoods League slate featured two solo matchups; The #1 Mankato Habaneros and the #2 Madison Night Mares, The #3 La Crosse Steam and the #4 Minot Honeybees. The Mankato Habaneros shut out the Madison NightMares 4-0. Paige Zender (Iowa State University) went 1-for-2 hitting her tenth home run with a solo shot in the fourth. Waseca Legion downs Marshall to open sub-state tournament
The Waseca Senior Legion baseball team began postseason play Wednesday afternoon in New Ulm when they faced off against Marshall, who served as the home team in the game. A strong pitching performance from Sabastian Teague and aggressive baserunning performance led Waseca to earn a 6-2 victory to advance in the tournament.
