The Smith Mountain Lake YMCA announces an exciting evening of music and community spirit with its upcoming Formals and Flops event, featuring a SML Boomer Band concert and silent auction. The event will take place on August 9, 2024 at the Smith Mountain Lake YMCA located at 293 Firstwatch Drive in Moneta. Dowell named VMI Basketball Director of Scouting
LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Basketball Head Coach Andrew Wilson named Drew Dowell as his program's Director of Scouting Thursday morning. Dowell comes to the Institute by way of the LSU men's basketball program where he served the past season as a graduate assistant. Among many responsibilities, he assisted the coaching staff with daily practices, film preparation, scouting reports, player development and all gameday-related activities. He also assisted the crew with recruiting operations, video breakdown, operations, team travel and equipment management.
Rovegno '24 and Coleman Earn Major Awards in VaSID Women's Lacrosse All-State Selections
LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington and Lee University received nine honors from the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) for the 2023-24 College Division All-State women's lacrosse teams. Eugenie Rovegno '24 was named Defensive Player of the Year for the third consecutive year, and Head Coach Maddie Coleman earned Coach of the Year honors for the second straight season.
Animal cruelty case results in guilty plea
A sentencing hearing concerning an animal cruelty trial spanning some two years culminated in a guilty plea in Carroll County District Court on July 16. Christopher Donithan’s guilty plea was accepted by the Honorable Judge Brett Geisler. According to Carroll County Commonwealth Attorney Roger Brooks, Donithan was sentenced to 12 months in jail on the misdemeanor charge. Lynchburg Humane Society speaks about dogs rescued from “deplorable” conditions at Lynchburg home
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Lynchburg animal control found 15 dogs in “deplorable” and “appalling” conditions at a home on Shaffer Street. On July 22, their owner was charged in Lynchburg General District Court for five counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty and the dogs plus one parrot were handed over to the Lynchburg Humane Society.
