Temporary lane closures on portions of Poplar Street and Odd Fellows Road
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — The Department of Public Works said there will be temporary lane closures on portions of Poplar Street and Odd Fellows Road. On Thursday from 8:30 a.m., through 3:30 p.m., weather permitting, a temporary lane closure will occur in the vicinity of 2200 Poplar Street to accommodate maintenance work by Columbia Gas, according to the Department of Public Works.

UNITED WAY OF CENTRAL VIRGINIA TO HOST HILL CITY SLIDE IN DOWNTOWN LYNCHBURG IN ONE MONTH
In one month’s time, United Way of Central Virginia (UWCV) will be having their Hill City Slide event. The event will take place on August 24th and 25th. UWCV, partnered with the company Urban Slide, will transform Church Street between 12th Street and Washington Street into a 700 foot water slide. Ticket holders will have a 2 hour time slot where they can slide as many times as they wish. All proceeds from this event will go towards the mission of UWCV and their 25 partner agencies.
Grant funding to help mark anniversary of American Revolution
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A free, Charlottesville-wide event is getting some money to help mark the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. On Thursday, Virginia Humanities announced more than $162,000 in grants for 20 nonprofits across the Commonwealth.
