    OBITUARY: Dorothy Ann Hemmer Harris

    Dorothy Ann Hemmer Harris, age 90, of Goodlettsville, TN passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends on Thursday, July 11, 2024.

    Dot was born July 9, 1934 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Clarence Edward and Stella Marie Dickens Hemmer.

    She attended East High School in Nashville and sang on WKDA radio station in a trio in her younger years. Dot retired with 21 years of service from the US Postal Service as a City Mail Carrier in Goodlettsville. She met many people and cherished memories from those days.

    Dot relocated with her husband/fishing partner to Paris TN. For the next 25 years, they enjoyed fishing, traveling, and joined Point Pleasant Baptist Church in Paris Landing. They were actors in the Living Pictures of Easter for several years and participated in many other church functions. Dot loved to sing and sang many specials at church and family events over her lifetime.

    She was a devoted Christian, read her bible every morning and she prayed many times during the day and always before a meal. She attended Springhill Baptist Church in Goodlettsville and loved her church family.

    In her spare time, she loved sewing, working jigsaw puzzles, reading, fishing, gardening and feeding the wildlife. Over her lifetime she was an exceptional cook and took pride in her hand-sewn gifts to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

    In addition to her parents, Dot is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Donald Travis Harris, Sr., brother, Ronald Hemmer and half-sister, Eddie Clair.

    Dot is survived by her sons Randy Crossland (Christine Murphy) of Fairview, TN; and Travis Harris aka Patch (Shelley) of Goodlettsville; daughters Barbara Duke of Nashville, Anita Conquest (Jeff Hornbuckle) of Goodlettsville; Donna Harris Thomas (Mark) of Calhoun, LA; and Faye Harris of Goodlettsville; Sister-in-law Betty Brown Hemmer, 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

    Of her many accomplishments, the proudest were her 6 children and their families, who feel so blessed to have the honor to call her mom, granny and granny2.

    She was loved by so many people and left a trail of awesome memories. She will be remembered and forever missed.

    The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4:00 pm- 7:00 pm at the funeral home and Monday from 10 am till time of Service at 12 pm.

    Funeral services will be held Monday, July 15, 2024 at 12 pm in the chapel of Austin and Bell Funeral Home in Greenbrier. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Dividing Ridge Road, Goodlettsville, with Jeff Whitaker, Michael Conquest, Chris Conquest, Guy Conquest, Steven Crossland and Dustin Hutcherson serving as pallbearers. Stephanie Crossland Hayes, Ara Farmer Watts, Markie Farmer Hayes, Eric Hayes, Lee Watts, Ross Hayes and Melaney Murphy are serving as honorary pallbearers.
