60 Main: Rooftop bar was not feasible
Developers behind 60 Main, the downtown hotel-apartment building under construction, responded to public reactions wishing the project included a rooftop bar confirming it won’t be included. Earlier this month, the Winona Planning Commission approved a site plan for the hotel-apartment building despite some concerns from neighbors about a planned fenced parking lot and its impact on traffic flow in the area.
A look back at yesterday’s storms
Showers and thunderstorms made their way through the Weather First area on Thursday, bringing heavy rain to most of the area and damaging winds to others. In terms of severe weather, most of it in our local area stayed south of the Minnesota/Iowa border. Severe storms began to develop just south of Floyd county around 6PM. Around 7PM Charles City was struck by these severe storms producing damaging winds that damaged trees and left parts of the city without power.
Winhawk Football Game Moved to TODAY at 12:00 p.m.
(KWMN)- The Winhawk Football game vs. Simley High School was delayed last night due to weather conditions. The school moved the game to today, with a 12:00 p.m. kickoff. We will still have the coverage of the game, airing on the Winona Sports Network with a pre-game show starting at 11:30 a.m. followed by kickoff.
Cardinals Start the Season Strong
WINONA, Minn. – The Cardinal Women's Soccer team held onto its one goal lead over the Cougars to win the first game of the season. The Cardinals controlled the ball on the Cougars side a majority of the first half resulting in a goal. At the 8 min mark, a well struck ball from straight on by Ella Lahart floated over the Cougars goalie. The goal was assisted by Dakota Leonard.

Starting this fall, all new Winona State IDs will provide students and employees with direct access to 24/7 crisis lifeline phone numbers. This new initiative aims to assist individuals seeking mental health support by providing information on how to call or text the 988-crisis lifeline information listed on the back of the ID. The 988-crisis lifeline connects instantly to local suicide prevention and crisis intervention call centers that are open for help around-the-clock. The centers are equipped with skilled crisis professionals to support callers through a mental health emergency of any kind.

Minnesota state fair vendors prep for "marathon" final weekend
FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. — After a week with multiple severe storms, cancellations, and delays, Friday at the Minnesota State Fair felt like a release of sorts. "I think it was one of the busier days I've seen at the fair," said Dan O'Gara, owner of O'Gara's at the Fair. "People are excited just to get out on a beautiful day."O'Gara, who says sales dipped with sagging attendance this week, is hoping for more of the same in the fair's final weekend – and he's not alone. "Yesterday is what we've been dreaming for all week," said Kris Koch, Executive Chef at the Farmers Union Coffee Shop. Koch says sales are almost directly tied to weather conditions. "I think it's going to be a marathon finish for us," he said. "I'm crunching numbers in my head – are we going to have enough? I better get a couple more shipments of stuff, so we're ready to serve more sandwiches, so we have enough simple syrup to make the lemonade… we're ready." Friday saw the highest number of attendees for the fair this year, with 225,521 people walking through the gates.
