Firefighters rescued an elderly woman from a burning home in Goodyear, after her husband informed them his wife was still inside.

Fire crews from Goodyear, Arizona Fire & Medical Authority, and Avondale departments responded to the incident at Estrella Mountain Ranch near the intersection of West Cardinal Drive and South 175th Drive.

Fire crews were returning to the station from another call and noticed smoke in the area. They tracked the source of the smoke to an elderly couple’s home.

Crews said an adult male had already exited the structure, prior to the fire department’s arrival. He informed the responding unit on the scene that his wife was still inside the house. Firefighters quickly found her and extricated her from the home.

According to the Goodyear Fire Department, the fire appeared to be in the wall of the back bedroom. Crews worked diligently to prevent the fire from spreading to the entire house.

The residents were medically evaluated and refused any further treatment or transportation to the hospital. There were no firefighters or civilian injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The two occupants are displaced for an unknown amount of time.
