The Litchfield Elementary School District governing board voted unanimously to hire Thomas Foster-De Oro as director of school safety for the district.

Foster-De Oro was selected through a multi-step narrowing process put on by board members and was selected because of his experience working with Cartwright Elementary District and is a naval veteran.

“This is such a crucial role because they work with so many people: police, fire, teachers, staff, parent and student directly,” said Governing Board President Melissa Zuidema, “we need a person to be able to do all of that and navigate the challenges to keep all our children safe.”

As director of school safety, Foster-De Oro will take charge of LESD’s mission statement of providing a safe learning and working environments for all students, staff and visitors. He will be the third director of school safety LESD has had in the past year-and-a-half, according to board member Ryan Owens. Foster-De Oro will start after the new school year Monday, Aug. 5.
