Garden City's Rylee Wood voted Standard-Times Athlete of the Week

As the softball and baseball seasons rocket toward the state tournament, and other spring high school sports wind down, plenty of West Texas high school athletes had outstanding performances last week and were nominated for Standard-Times Athlete of the Week.

This week, Garden City girls golf's Rylee Wood was voted the Standard-Times Athlete of the Week after earning 10,989 votes, 56.30% of the total votes.

Wood won the Class 1A girls golf championship, scoring a 165 after two days, and helped lead the Lady Kats to a first-place finish with a 757.

Top four finishers

Rylee Wood, Garden City girls golf - 10,989 votes.

Makayla Garza, Forsan softball - 6,120 votes.

Emily Scott, Veribest tennis - 2,135 votes.

Scout Stockton, Forsan softball - 193 votes.

How to nominate athletes for next week's poll

The Standard-Times is taking weekly nominations and will release a list of finalists for the High School Athlete of the Week each Tuesday.

Students in all varsity sports are eligible to be nominated. The poll will close at 2 p.m. Thursday and the winners will be announced shortly after.

Nominations for next week's award are due by 5 p.m. Monday and can be submitted through email at sports@gosanangelo.com by messaging the Standard-Times through its Facebook page, or on X (formerly known as Twitter) @sast_sports.

Do not send votes through email as they will not be accepted. Only nominations are accepted through email.
