    Early Addition: Manhattan's elite ant species is expanding its sphere of influence

    Good Wednesday morning in New York City, where lawmakers want more high schools to have student newspapers .

    Here's what else is happening:

    • The MTA is doubling the number of private security guards it hires to deter fare evasion in subway stations .
    • Grocery delivery app Getir is being sued by several landlords who say the company owes $4 million in unpaid rent at nine facilities across the city.
    • The protected bike lane in the tunnel below First Avenue in Manhattan, which for years has gone into effect whenever the United Nations General Assembly is in session, is being made permanent .
    • The transportation department this week put 200 "Cornelia Street" signs up for sale and immediately sold out . (Taylor Swift has a song called "Cornelia Street.")
    • Money laundering allegations and the general decline of print media has meant bad news for The Epoch Times , the newspaper owned by Falun Gong, the Chinese anti-communist religious group. So Falun Gong is buying up real estate in a Hudson Valley town to try to create a mecca for the Epoch lifestyle brand.
    • It's August 14th and the Yankees have moved into first place in their division.
    • The ManhattAnt , a superior species of ant that was discovered in Manhattan, is now spreading its influence around the country.
