Harvey Weinstein rushed to Bellevue Hospital for heart surgery amid ongoing health issues, reps say

Disgraced movie producer Harvey Weinstein had emergency heart surgery after being rushed to the hospital over the weekend, officials said.

According to his lawyer, prison consultant and publicist, Weinstein was taken from his cell on Rikers Island to a Manhattan hospital Sunday night. They said the 72-year-old Weinstein suffers from a plethora of health issues that require ongoing treatment.

His representatives praised jail staff for their quick response.

"We are grateful to the executive team at the New York City Department of Correction and Rikers Island for acting swiftly to take him to Bellevue Hospital," representatives Craig Rothfeld and Juda Engelmayer said in a statement.

Weinstein was convicted of sexual assault in both New York and California. His 23-year prison sentence in New York was recently overturned, and a retrial is scheduled for November.
