The tracks of the 7 train in Corona, Queens. Police say two teen girls fell from atop a 7 train Sunday night, and one died at the scene.

One teenage girl was killed and another was critically injured during what police described as a subway surfing incident in Queens Sunday night.

NYPD officials said the two girls were spotted on top of the 7 train around 10:45 p.m. at the 111th Street station in Corona before they fell between the cars.

One of the girls was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The other was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition.

Police said late Monday morning that the girl who died was 13 years old, and the girl taken to Elmhurst Hospital is 14 years old.

Last week, a 13-year-old boy also died while reportedly subway surfing in Ridgewood, Queens. The deaths are happening even though police have arrested more people for subway surfing this year compared to last, according to reporting from amNewYork.

At an MTA committee meeting Monday morning, New York City Transit President Demetrius Crichlow said he "can’t imagine what the family’s going through right now to lose a child in this manner."

"We really want people to get the sense that this is a life-or-death matter," Crichlow said. "The consequences, there is no do-over. The joy ride that ends with nothing but no joy at all. The families will continue to deal with it indefinitely.”

Transit officials say six people have died so far this year in subway surfing incidents, up from five in the same period last year.

This story has been updated to include more information from city transit and police officials.

The WEEKEND is OVER - they ought to be HOME , in BED 🛏️ , or getting READY to , as the NEXT DAY is MONDAY, a SCHOOL 🎒 Day . BACK in the DAY , at THAT age , there was a CURFEW for School nights for Us . BY and LARGE , 13 and 14 year olds are NATURALLY irresponsible ; it's then the PARENTS Job to be responsible FOR THEM . Whatever " Adults " at the homes of these girls , they FAILED them , and it COST them their LIVES .
